COVID-19 blog, 31 May: 4 new positive test results in 24 hours

Over the past 24 hours, 694 tests were analysed for the COVID-19 causing SARS-CoV-2 virus, of which 4 (0.6%) showed positive results.

Based on data from the population register, four new positive tests were found in Harju County (3 in Tallinn).

According to the latest data from the morning of 31 May, 25 patients require hospitalisation in Estonia due to the coronavirus, there are no patients on ventilation. Over the past 24 hours, an 83 year old woman died at the Pärnu Hospital. In total, the coronavirus has caused the deaths of 68 persons in Estonia.

334 persons have been discharged from hospitals and 346 disease cases have been closed.

To date 1624 persons have recovered from the disease. 1257 (77.4%) of these cases have been closed and in the cases of 367 persons (22.6%), more than 28 days have passed from receiving a positive test result and they are not hospitalised.

A total of 83 441 first time tests have been carried out in Estonia, of which 1 869 (2.2%) have been positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. For more detailed statistics on coronavirus testing, please see www.koroonakaart.ee/en.

The Health Board reminds everyone that even after the end of the emergency situation, vigilance towards COVID-19 as well as other infectious diseases should stay high: hand hygiene, social distancing and staying home when sick are still important measures to follow. The coronavirus is spread mainly from person-to-person, usually via close contact with an infected person. Close contact is seen as a situation where people are closer than 2 metres to each other for the duration of 15 minutes.

COVID-19 is a droplet infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 that spreads through sneezing and coughing from people to people, and by way of contaminated surfaces and unwashed hands.
