Registration of health care professionals

In Estonia health care professionals have to be registered at the National Register of Health Care Professionals. According to the Health Services Organisation Act (for pharmacists and assistant pharmacists the Medicinal Products Act also applies), health care professionals are doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and dispensers/assistant pharmacists.

The competent authority to register these health care professionals is the Health Board (Terviseamet).

If you wish to be registered then the following information is for you.

 

Education acquired in the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland:

         

  • Get a Certificate of Current Professional Status from the competent authority in your country; If you started your study process before your country joined the EU then please contact Health Board (liina.saar@terviseamet.ee) before getting the certificate – in that case it might be that the competent authority will also have to provide information about your work experience. Dispensers/assistant pharmacists do not have to bring this certificate.
  • Fill in a Health Care Professional Registration Application/form of Registration and recognition of professional qualifications of pharmacists and registration of assistant pharmacists; don´t forget to sign it. Send it to Health Board.
  • Send a copy of your self-identification document (like passport, residency-permit); If your name has changed then please provide proof of name change.
  • If your diploma (general medicine/pharmacy studies, not speciality) is in any other language than English, then please have it translated by a professional translator into Estonian or English and also the original notarized, if the document is in English then just have it verified; send the notarized document(s) to Health Board.
  • If you wish to be registered on any speciality then please send proof of speciality (diploma, certificate etc); it also has to be translated and notarized.
  • Pay the state fee of 195€.

Education acquired outside the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland

 

  • Get an evaluation of your educational credentials by the Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre. Send the document you receive to Health Board.
  • Fill in a Health Care Professional Registration Application/form of Registration and recognition of professional qualifications of pharmacists and registration of assistant pharmacists; don´t forget to sign it. Send it to Health Board.
  • Send a copy of your self-identification document (like passport, residency-permit); If your name has changed then please provide proof of name change.
  • If your diploma and diploma supplement (general medicine/pharmacy studies, not speciality) is in any other language than English, then please have it translated by a professional translator into Estonian or English and the original notarized, if the document is in English then just have it verified by notary; send the notarized document(s) to Health Board.
  • If you wish to be registered on any speciality then please send proof of speciality (diploma, certificate etc); it has to show the length of speciality studies (years) and also has to be translated and verified.   • Get a signed verification letter from your (ex) employer(s) stating the position held by you, the start and end of work relationship or if the work relationship is continual then please have the employer state so; the verification letter has to be in English or if it is in any other language then please have it translated/verified into Estonian or English.
  • Pay the state fee of 195€.
