The Health Board comments on the Karjaküla social centre case: the vaccine has prevented a serious instance of Covid-19

At the beginning of the second wave of coronavirus, patients who had been hospitalised from care homes formed almost twenty percent of all coronavirus cases. Fortunately the vaccination programme has now taken their share of cases down almost to one percent. The death statistics were even sadder, with almost half of those coronavirus patients who died with the virus being residents of care homes or social centres. Influenza blog, week 17: no new influenza cases added

No new influenza cases were added in Estonia during week 17. Overall so far, a total of six influenza cases have been confirmed in Estonia this season through laboratory analyses, involving two cases of influenza A and four cases of influenza B. Two individuals have been hospitalised due to influenza. In the period between 26 April -2 May, a total of 1,833 people sought medical aid due to acute viral upper respiratory tract infections, of whom 22% were children. The Health Board: let’s not allow to slip away what we have achieved thanks to the restrictions

Even though the daily number of new coronavirus cases has been dropping quite considerably over the last few weeks, the infection multiplier curve (the ‘R’ number) has now turned upwards again in several counties, and the epidemiological situation may deteriorate once again when restrictions are eased. Thanks to this, the Health Board would like to call on everyone to remain reasonable in their behaviour, and to continue avoiding any unnecessary contact with others, as we may easily end up losing what has been achieved.
