In total, 231 individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19

As of the morning of 5 January, hospital treatment is being provided to 231 individuals who have been infected with COVID-19. A total of 159 patients who have COVID-19 are currently receiving hospital treatment after having developed serious symptoms, including 126 patients who have not been vaccinated (which covers 79.2% of the overall figure), and thirty-three patients who have been fully vaccinated (which amounts to 20.8% of the overall figure).

Thirty-four new COVID-19 cases have been opened by hospitals within the past 24 hours. Two new deaths have been added within the same period, including an 86-year-old woman and an 86-year-old man.

The last 24 hours have also seen 8,632 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 1,491 were positive. The average infection rate for the last seven days for every 100,000 members of the country’s vaccinated population is 70.7, while for the unvaccinated population the figure is 98.4.

A total of 5,521 vaccine doses have been administered over the past 24 hours, with 771 individuals receiving their first injections. As of this morning, 299,097 individuals had received their additional or booster doses. Of the total population in Estonia, 61.5% are fully vaccinated.
