As of Monday morning a total of ninety-seven individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19
Monday morning’s COVID-19 report is able to state that a total of ninety-seven individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19. Hospitals opened eighty new COVID-19 cases last week. The percentage of positive test results out of all tests increased by almost 15%.
Hanna Sepp, head of the Health Board’s Department of Infectious Diseases, said that last week, 801 of the total number of 5,956 tests turned out to be positive, which is at a similar level with the same figure for last week. ‘However, it is important to keep in mind the fact that the number of tests and visits to the doctor were lower due to the pubic holiday and, in actual fact, a growing trend can be observed both in the number of new cases and also in the number of hospitalisation cases,’ explained Sepp, adding that the infection ‘R’ rate is slightly above ‘1’ (1.03). According to the hospitalisation risk matrix, the risk of coronavirus transmission is categorised as being average.
The indicator for those who were hospitalised within the last seven days is 5.7. As of Monday morning, a total of ninety-seven people were being treated in hospital, fifty of whom required hospitalisation due to symptomatic COVID-19. During the week, three deaths have been added of individuals who were infected by COVID-19. Those individuals were aged 74, 83, and 88, and one of them had not been vaccinated. The number of symptomatic hospitalisation cases over the past seven days is showing a growing trend, and the overall number of hospitalisations is also increasing. The number of new hospitalisation cases is expected to increase further.
A total of 595 vaccine doses have been administered over the past week, with 147 individuals receiving their first injections. A grand total of 461,924 people received their additional or booster doses. Of the total population in Estonia, 63.7% have received two vaccine doses.
