As of Monday morning a total of ninety-four individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19
Monday morning’s COVID-19 report is able to state that a total of ninety-four individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19, and the incidence of COVID-19 cases has decreased by 15% amongst those who are over sixty years of age.
Juta Varjas, chief specialist at the Health Board’s Department of Infectious Diseases, said that last week it was mainly people who belonged to a risk group who were being analysed on the basis of a referral from a family doctor, with 822 of the total number of 9,793 tests turning out to be positive. ‘Amongst the over-sixties age group, the incidence of COVID-19 cases decreased by approximately 15%. The decline is partially related to the drop in the overall number of new cases, as well as to a change in the testing strategy,’ Varjas explained, adding that the infection ‘R’ rate remains at 0.89. According to the hospitalisation risk matrix, the risk of coronavirus transmission is at the low level.
The indicator for those who were hospitalised within the last seven days dropped to three. As of Monday morning, a total of ninety-four people were being treated in hospital, thirty of whom required hospitalisation due to symptomatic COVID-19. During the week, eight deaths have been added of individuals who were infected by COVID-19. Those individuals were aged between 47-96, and five of them had not been vaccinated. The number of hospitalisation cases should remain around eighty-five this week.
A total of 1,490 vaccine doses have been administered over the past week, with 302 individuals receiving their first injections. A grand total of 458,789 people received their additional or booster doses. Of the total population in Estonia, 63.7% have received two vaccine doses.
Concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater are predominantly at the moderate level, with 65% of samples remaining at the level known as yellow level. The highest level was to be found in Jõgeva, Kärdla, and Laagri, the lowest in Põltsamaa, Paldiski, Valga, and Paide.
