As of Monday morning a total of fifty-nine individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19
Monday morning’s COVID-19 report is able to state that a total of fifty-nine individuals are being treated in hospital due to symptomatic COVID-19, and the incidence of COVID-19 cases has increased amongst almost all age groups over the age of sixty.
Hanna Sepp, head of the Health Board’s Department of Infectious Diseases, said that last week, 840 of the total number of 9,079 tests turned out to be positive. ‘Amongst almost all age groups over the age of sixty, the incidence of COVID-19 cases has increased,’ she explained, adding that the infection ‘R’ rate increased a little to exceed the ‘1’ figure (reaching 1.01). According to the hospitalisation risk matrix, the risk of coronavirus transmission is categorised as being low level.
The indicator for those who were hospitalised within the last seven days is 3.8. As of Monday morning, a total of fifty-nine people were being treated in hospital, twenty-four of whom required hospitalisation due to symptomatic COVID-19. During the week, two deaths have been added of individuals who were infected by COVID-19. Those individuals were aged 53 and 91, and one of them had not been vaccinated. It is likely that the number of hospitalisation cases will drop below fifty in the 24th week, but will start to increase again at the end of June or the start of July.
A total of 1,068 vaccine doses have been administered over the past week, with 294 individuals receiving their first injections. A grand total of 460,614 people received their additional or booster doses. Of the total population in Estonia, 63.7% have received two vaccine doses.
Concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater are predominantly at the green level. The highest levels were found in Harjumaa samples, mostly those from Tallinn. Virus concentrations also remain high in Rapla and Pärnu. Low concentrations were found in the samples from Estonia’s islands, as well as in eastern and southern Estonia.
