As of Monday morning, a total of 210 COVID-19 patients have required hospitalisation
Monday morning saw a grand total of 210 COVID-19 patients who required hospitalisation. Last week, an overall figure of 201 new cases of COVID-19 were registered by hospitals. Based on the results from wastewater monitoring in week 39, the spread of the virus is at the orange risk level to the extent of approximately 52% of the country.
Juta Varjas, chief specialist of the Health Board’s Department of Infectious Diseases, said that 3,561 cases were added last week, of which 1,316 were laboratory-confirmed and 2,245 had been clinically diagnosed. ‘When compared to the figures for last week, the number of new cases has remained pretty stable, increasing by just 5.7%. Meanwhile the number of new positive test results continues to grow in the older age groups,’ explained Varjas, adding that the infection ‘R’ rate is currently at 1.04 nationwide. A slight increase in the number of new cases may be expected next week.
As of Monday morning, there are 210 people in hospital due to COVID-19, of which nine require intensive care. A total of 201 patients were hospitalised over the week, including seventy-four people with symptomatic COVID-19. The number of new hospitalisation cases increased by 25.6% when compared to the week before last, while the average number of hospitalisations due to COVID-19 in the last seven days jumped from 8.4 to as high as ten. As of Monday morning, a total of ninety-five people are in hospital due to COVID-19, of which four require intensive care. During the week, eleven deaths were added of individuals who were aged between 68 and 94. All of those individuals had serious underlying illnesses.
During the week 6,694 vaccine doses were administered, of which 196 were new vaccinations. A grand total of 481,175 people have received an additional or booster dose. Coverage of the entire Estonian population with two vaccine doses is at 63.6%
Based on the results from the wastewater monitoring of settlements in week 39, the spread of viruses in Estonian wastewater is at the orange risk level to the extent of approximately 52% of all wastewater. As much as 39% of those samples which were collected from settlements can be classified in the red risk level. Of all of the averaged sampling sites, the highest numbers of virus particles were detected in Ahtme and Sillamäe. The lowest number of virus particles were detected in Põlva and Kuressaare. When compared to figures for the previous week, the percentage of the sample which reach the red risk level has increased somewhat.

In week fifteen, a total of 3,184 people fell ill with acute respiratory infections, of whom 38.4% were children. The overall incidence of acute respiratory viral diseases increased by 39%.
A total of 151 new influenza cases and 1,466 COVID-19 cases have been added this week
In week fourteen, a grand total of 2,297 people fell ill with acute respiratory infections. Overall, 36.4% of all of the new cases involved children. The number of new cases decreased by a third.
