COVID-19 blog, 9 August: 147 new positive test results have been added within the past 24 hours

The last 24 hours have seen 2,801 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 147 (5.2%) of the initial tests were positive. In total, 112 of the new cases were unvaccinated (amounting to 76.2% of all new cases). Seven of those individuals who were infected had received only one shot of the vaccine, while twenty-eight infected individuals (amounting to 19.0% of the overall figure) had completed the vaccination process. Unvaccinated individuals formed 94.8% of all individuals who were tested.

A full 2,066 vaccine doses were also administered within the past 24 hours. In total, 667,215 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Estonia, and 580,140 individuals have now received both doses. A total of 59.5% of the entire adult population has received at least one vaccine dose.

Based on the data in the population register, the highest number of new positive test results came from Harju County, where sixty further individuals were found to have been infected. A total of forty-six of the new cases in Harju County were from Tallinn.

A further twenty-two new positive coronavirus test results were added from Tartu County, fourteen from Pärnu County, eight each from Jõgeva County and Võru County, and seven from Ida-Viru County. Another five new cases each were added from Lääne-Viru County and Viljandi County, four each from Saare County and Valga County, three from Järva County, two each from Põlva County, Rapla County, and Saare County, and one from Jõgeva County. No new cases were added from Lääne County or Hiiu County. On three occasions the places of residence of those individuals who tested positive were not specified in the population register.

The number of cases for every 100,000 people in the last fourteen days is 203.30, and 5.4% of all initial tests have been found to be positive.

Eight new COVID-19 cases have been opened within the past 24 hours, and sixty patients are being treated in hospital

As of the morning of 9 August, hospital treatment is being supplied to sixty patients who have COVID-19. Six patients require intensive care, and two patients have been placed on a ventilator. Five of those patients who are being treated in hospital are fully vaccinated (with those five cases amounting to 8.3% of the overall figure of hospitalisations for COVID-19).

In total, 6.8% of all individuals who have tested positive have required hospital treatment. The average age of those patients who are being treated in hospital is sixty-two. All told, thirty-six of those patients who require hospital treatment are over the age of sixty (60.0% of the overall figure).

No new deaths were registered within the past 24 hours. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of a total of 1,277 people in Estonia.

In total, 667,215 individuals in Estonia have been vaccinated against COVID-19

As of this morning, a total of 667,215 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 87,075 individuals have received one dose, and 580,140 individuals have received both doses. Of that total, 2,066 vaccine doses were administered over the past 24 hours, and 1,172,732 vaccine doses have been administered overall.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for anyone who is at least twelve years of age. Time slots for vaccination against COVID-19 can be booked via the eBooking system or by calling the central phone number (1247) between 08:00 and 20:00. New time slots are being added into the system based on the arrival of fresh vaccine deliveries.
