COVID-19 blog, 6 August: 241 new positive test results have been added within the past 24 hours

The last 24 hours have seen 3,851 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 241 (6.3%) of the initial tests were positive. In total, 178 of the new cases were unvaccinated (amounting to 73.9% of all new cases). Twelve of those individuals who were infected had received only one shot of the vaccine, while fifty-one infected individuals (amounting to 21.2% of the overall figure) had completed the vaccination process. Unvaccinated individuals formed 94.9% of all individuals who were tested.

A full 5,407 vaccine doses were also administered within the past 24 hours. In total, 657,902 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Estonia, and 574,814 individuals have now received both doses. A total of 58.8% of the entire adult population has received at least one vaccine dose.

Based on the data in the population register, the highest number of new positive test results came from Harju County, where ninety-four further individuals were found to have been infected. A total of sixty-eight of the new cases in Harju County were from Tallinn.

A further thirty-five new positive coronavirus test results were added from Tartu County, twenty-six from Võru County, twenty-two from Pärnu County, eight from Lääne-Viru County, seven each from Järva County and Ida-Viru County, and six from Põlva County. Another five new cases each were added from Lääne County, Valga County, and Viljandi County, three from Rapla County, two from Saare County, and one from Jõgeva County. No new cases were added from Hiiu County. On fifteen occasions the places of residence of those individuals who tested positive were not specified in the population register.

The number of cases for every 100,000 people in the last fourteen days is 185.20, and 5.2% of all initial tests have been found to be positive.

Nine new COVID-19 cases have been opened within the past 24 hours, and forty-eight patients are being treated in hospital

As of the morning of 6 August, hospital treatment is being supplied to forty-eight patients who have COVID-19. Three patients require intensive care, and one patient has been placed on a ventilator. Five of those patients who are being treated in hospital are fully vaccinated (with those six cases amounting to 10.2% of the overall figure of hospitalisations for COVID-19), including four individuals who are being treated for symptomatic COVID-19.

In total, 6.8% of all individuals who have tested positive have required hospital treatment. The average age of those patients who are being treated in hospital is sixty-six. All told, thirty-four of those patients who require hospital treatment are over the age of sixty (69.4% of the overall figure).

One new coronavirus death was registered within the past 24 hours, involving an 81 year-old unvaccinated man. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of a total of 1,277 people in Estonia.

In total, 657,902 individuals in Estonia have been vaccinated against COVID-19

As of this morning, a total of 657,902 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 83,088 individuals have received one dose, and 574,814 individuals have received both doses. Of that total, 5,407 vaccine doses were administered over the past 24 hours, and 1,160,368 vaccine doses have been administered overall.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for anyone who is at least twelve years of age. Time slots for vaccination against COVID-19 can be booked via the eBooking system or by calling the central phone number (1247) between 08:00 and 20:00. New time slots are being added into the system based on the arrival of fresh vaccine deliveries.
