COVID-19 blog, 31 August: 358 new positive test results have been added within the past 24 hours

The last 24 hours have seen 5,361 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 358 (6.7%) of the initial tests were positive. In total, 257 of the new cases were unvaccinated (amounting to 71.8% of all new cases), while 101 infected individuals (amounting to 28.2% of the overall figure) had completed the vaccination process.

Based on the data in the population register, the highest number of new positive test results came from Harju County, where 137 further individuals were found to have been infected. A total of ninety-four of the new cases in Harju County were from Tallinn.

A further forty new positive coronavirus test results were added from Viljandi County, thirty-five from Tartu County, twenty-six from Võru County, nineteen from Pärnu County, eighteen from Põlva County, and seventeen from Valga County. Another twelve new cases each were added from Rapla County and Ida-Viru County, ten each from Lääne-Viru County and Lääne County, nine from Jõgeva County, six from Saare County, and one from Hiiu County. No new cases were added from any of the remaining counties. On six occasions the places of residence of those individuals who tested positive were not specified in the population register.

The number of cases for every 100,000 people in the last fourteen days is 334.00, and 7.5% of all initial tests have been found to be positive. In total, 1,266 of all individuals who were tested were fully vaccinated and 4,095 were unvaccinated.

Twenty new COVID-19 cases have been opened within the past 24 hours, and 119 patients are being treated in hospital

As of the morning of 31 August, hospital treatment is being supplied to 119 patients who have COVID-19. Fifteen patients require intensive care, and eleven patients have been placed on a ventilator. Ninety-five of those patients who are being treated in hospital have not been vaccinated (with eighty-six of those individuals requiring treatment for symptomatic COVID-19), which means that 79.1% of all individuals who are being treated in hospital are unvaccinated.

In total, 6.7% of all individuals who have tested positive have required hospital treatment. The average age of those patients who are being treated in hospital is sixty-seven. All told, seventy-nine of those patients who require hospital treatment are over the age of sixty (65.8% of the overall figure).

One new death was registered within the past 24 hours, involving a 91 year-old woman. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of a total of 1,292 people in Estonia.

Overall, 726,054 individuals in Estonia have been vaccinated against COVID-19

As of this morning, a total of 726,054 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 97,482 individuals have received one dose, and 628,572 individuals have received both doses. Of that total, 3,871 vaccine doses were administered over the past 24 hours, and 1,268,341 vaccine doses have been administered overall. In total, 64.2% of all adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for anyone who is at least twelve years of age. Time slots for vaccination against COVID-19 can be booked via the eBooking system or by calling the central phone number (1247) between 08:00 and 20:00. New time slots are being added into the system based on the arrival of fresh vaccine deliveries.
