COVID-19 blog, 26 August: 405 new positive test results have been added within the past 24 hours

The last 24 hours have seen 4,961 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 405 (8.2%) of the initial tests were positive. In total, 317 of the new cases were unvaccinated (amounting to 78.3% of all new cases). Eighty-eight infected individuals (amounting to 21.7% of the overall figure) had completed the vaccination process.

Based on the data in the population register, the highest number of new positive test results came from Harju County, where 130 further individuals were found to have been infected. A total of seventy-nine of the new cases in Harju County were from Tallinn.

A further seventy-two new positive coronavirus test results were added from Tartu County, thirty-four from Viljandi County, twenty-three from Valga County, seventeen each from Jõgeva County and Võru County, and sixteen each from Järva County and Põlva County. Another fifteen new cases were added from Pärnu County, thirteen each from Saare County and Ida-Viru County, eleven each from Rapla County and Lääne-Viru County, and eight from Lääne County. On nine occasions the places of residence of those individuals who tested positive were not specified in the population register.

The number of cases for every 100,000 people in the last fourteen days is 310.00, and 6.7% of all initial tests have been found to be positive.

Fifteen new COVID-19 cases have been opened within the past 24 hours, and 105 patients are being treated in hospital

As of the morning of 26 August, hospital treatment is being supplied to 105 patients who have COVID-19. Ten patients require intensive care, and eight patients have been placed on a ventilator. Eighty-four of those patients who are being treated in hospital have not been vaccinated (with seventy-nine of those individuals requiring treatment for symptomatic COVID-19), which means that 80.0% of all individuals who are being treated in hospital are unvaccinated.

In total, 6.7% of all individuals who have tested positive have required hospital treatment. The average age of those patients who are being treated in hospital is sixty-five, which is also the figure for those patients who require hospital treatment and who are over the age of sixty (61.9% of the overall figure).

One new death was registered within the past 24 hours, involving an 80 year-old woman. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of a total of 1,286 people in Estonia.

Overall, 715,143 individuals in Estonia have been vaccinated against COVID-19

As of this morning, a total of 715,143 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 97,230 individuals have received one dose, and 617,913 individuals have received both doses. Of that total, 4,544 vaccine doses were administered over the past 24 hours, and 1,248,520 vaccine doses have been administered overall. In total, 63.3% of all adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for anyone who is at least twelve years of age. Time slots for vaccination against COVID-19 can be booked via the eBooking system or by calling the central phone number (1247) between 08:00 and 20:00. New time slots are being added into the system based on the arrival of fresh vaccine deliveries.
