COVID-19 blog, 24 August: 375 new positive test results have been added within the past 24 hours

The last 24 hours have seen 4,923 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 375 (7.6%) of the initial tests were positive. In total, 285 of the new cases were unvaccinated (amounting to 76.0% of all new cases). Ninety infected individuals (amounting to 24.0% of the overall figure) had completed the vaccination process.

Based on the data in the population register, the highest number of new positive test results came from Harju County, where 122 further individuals were found to have been infected. A total of seventy-eight of the new cases in Harju County were from Tallinn.

A further forty-nine new positive coronavirus test results were added from Tartu County, thirty-three from Võru County, twenty-three from Viljandi County, twenty-one from Saare County, twenty from Pärnu County, nineteen from Valga County, and seventeen each from Järva County and Põlva County. Another fourteen new cases were added from Ida-Viru County, eleven from Jõgeva County, eight from Rapla County, five from Lääne-Viru County, and one each from Hiiu County and Lääne County. On fourteen occasions the places of residence of those individuals who tested positive were not specified in the population register.

The number of cases for every 100,000 people in the last fourteen days is 301.00, and 6.2% of all initial tests have been found to be positive.

Sixteen new COVID-19 cases have been opened within the past 24 hours, and ninety-nine patients are being treated in hospital

As of the morning of 24 August, hospital treatment is being supplied to ninety-nine patients who have COVID-19. Twelve patients require intensive care, and ten patients have been placed on a ventilator. Seventy-seven of those patients who are being treated in hospital have not been vaccinated (with seventy-one of those individuals requiring treatment for symptomatic COVID-19), which means that 77.8% of all individuals who are being treated in hospital are unvaccinated.

In total, 6.7% of all individuals who have tested positive have required hospital treatment. The average age of those patients who are being treated in hospital is sixty-eight. All told, sixty-six of those patients who require hospital treatment are over the age of sixty (66.7% of the overall figure).

No new deaths were registered within the past 24 hours. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of a total of 1,285 people in Estonia.

In total, 710,288 individuals in Estonia have been vaccinated against COVID-19

As of this morning, a total of 710,288 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 97,066 individuals have received one dose, and 613,222 individuals have received both doses. Of that total, 4,134 vaccine doses were administered over the past 24 hours, and 1,239,846 vaccine doses have been administered overall. In total, 63.0% of all adults have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for anyone who is at least twelve years of age. Time slots for vaccination against COVID-19 can be booked via the eBooking system or by calling the central phone number (1247) between 08:00 and 20:00. New time slots are being added into the system based on the arrival of fresh vaccine deliveries.

A total of 304 of those patients have been hospitalised with severe COVID-19 cases, including 211 patients who have not been vaccinated (which means 69.4% of the overall figure), and ninety-three patients who have been fully vaccinated (which amounts to 30.6% of the overall figure).
