COVID-19 blog, 11 August: 344 new positive test results have been added within the past 24 hours

The last 24 hours have seen 6,729 tests being analysed in Estonia in relation to coronavirus, of which the results of 344 (5.1%) of the initial tests were positive. In total, 270 of the new cases were unvaccinated (amounting to 78.5% of all new cases). Seventeen of those individuals who were infected had received only one dose of the vaccine, while fifty-seven infected individuals (amounting to 16.6% of the overall figure) had completed the vaccination process.

A full 6,163 vaccine doses were also administered within the past 24 hours. In total, 675,335 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Estonia, and 585,918 individuals have now received both doses. A total of 60.2% of the entire adult population has received at least one vaccine dose.

Based on the data in the population register, the highest number of new positive test results came from Harju County, where 120 further individuals were found to have been infected. A total of eighty-five of the new cases in Harju County were from Tallinn.

A further seventy-nine new positive coronavirus test results were added from Tartu County, forty-two from Pärnu County, eighteen from Lääne-Viru County, fifteen from Rapla County, and thirteen from Põlva County. Another nine new cases were added from Jõgeva County, eight from Ida-Viru County, seven from Viljandi County, five each from Järva County, Lääne County, and Saare County, and four each from Valga County and Võru County. One new case was also added from Hiiu County. On nine occasions the places of residence of those individuals who tested positive were not specified in the population register.

The number of cases for every 100,000 people in the last fourteen days is 223.60, and 5.1% of all initial tests have been found to be positive.

Eleven new COVID-19 cases have been opened within the past 24 hours, and sixty-three patients are being treated in hospital

As of the morning of 11 August, hospital treatment is being supplied to sixty-three patients who have COVID-19. Four patients require intensive care, and three patients have been placed on a ventilator. Fifty-seven of those patients who are being treated in hospital have not been vaccinated (with fifty-two of those individuals requiring treatment for symptomatic COVID-19), which means that 90.5% of all individuals who are being treated in hospital are unvaccinated.

In total, 6.8% of all individuals who have tested positive have required hospital treatment. The average age of those patients who are being treated in hospital is sixty-four. All told, forty-one of those patients who require hospital treatment are over the age of sixty (66.1% of the overall figure).

Two new deaths were registered within the past 24 hours, involving a 54 year-old man and a 70 year-old man. Both of the patients who died were unvaccinated. Coronavirus has claimed the lives of a total of 1,279 people in Estonia.

In total, 675,335 individuals in Estonia have been vaccinated against COVID-19

As of this morning, a total of 675,335 individuals have been vaccinated against COVID-19, of whom 89,417 individuals have received one dose, and 585,918 individuals have received both doses. Of that total, 6,163 vaccine doses were administered over the past 24 hours, and 1,184,417 vaccine doses have been administered overall.

Vaccination against COVID-19 is now available for anyone who is at least twelve years of age. Time slots for vaccination against COVID-19 can be booked via the eBooking system or by calling the central phone number (1247) between 08:00 and 20:00. New time slots are being added into the system based on the arrival of fresh vaccine deliveries.
