33 new positive COVID-19 tests results over the past 24 hours
Over the past 24 hours, 1551 COVID-19 virus tests were analysed in Estonia, of which 33 tests (2.1%) showed positive results. In total, 45 181 first time tests have been analysed in Estonia, of which 1592 (3.5%) have shown positive results.
According to the latest data from the morning of 23 April, 109 patients require hospitalisation in Estonia due to the novel coronavirus, of whom 7 are on ventilation. 192 people have been discharged from hospitals. During the past 24 hours, an 85 year old woman undergoing treatment at the Kuressaare Hospital died. In total, 45 persons have died in Estonia due to the coronavirus.
Based on data from the population register, over the past 24 hours the highest number of new coronavirus cases were found in Harju County (12) and Saare County (12). Two new cases were detected in Hiiu and Ida-Viru counties. Across age groups, the highest share of infected persons across the entire period of the COVID-19 spread is among those aged 55-59. More detailed statistics about the coronavirus tests are available at www.koroonakaart.ee/en. The regional statistics are compiled based on data from the population register. Since not all of the residents at the Sõmera care home have noted Saaremaa as their permanent residence, the positive results taken there are not reflected in the statistics for Saaremaa.
Although the number of persons infected and the number of persons hospitalised with COVID-19 is showing a downward trend, the need to stay home and avoid contacts will remain for some time. If we all make a joint effort, we will soon reach a situation where it is safe to gradually return to normal life.
