About HB

The Health Board is a government agency within the Ministry of Social Affairs, which began to operate as of 1 January 2010.  It incorporates the functions of the Health Care Board, the Health Protection Inspectorate, and the Chemicals Notification Centre.

Mission
to protect and preserve the health of Estonia’s population, and to support the devising of a healthful environment for them as well as optimal functioning of the health care system.

Vision
to be the leading agency providing coordination and advice in the fields of health care, health protection, and safety of chemicals.

The Board’s basic task is to provide leadership in the degree specified in the legislation governing its spheres of activity and to perform surveillance and enforcement functions to assure compliance with legal requirements.  

Main fields are:
•    health care;
•    communicable diseases and control;
•    environmental health;
•    chemical safety;
•    medical devices.
